  • 18 October 2001 -- Assistant Public Defender Fred Seraphin, is appointed as Miami-Dade's first Haitian-American county judge
  • June 4, 2001 -- CEGEP teacher Vivian Barbot, born in Haiti and with a long record of union activism, is acclaimed president of the Quebec Women's Federation, succeeding Francoise David.
  • June 1, 2001 -- Estime-Thompson and her all-female law firm, Mondesir, Estime-Thompson and Alexis PA, last month garnered the top business award for Haitian-Americans from the Greater Miami Chamber of Commerce
  • May 16, 2001 -- Voters elected architect-engineer Joe Celestin as this city's first Haitian-American mayor Tuesday night, prompting a raucous street celebration.
  • Pierre Richard Prosper, a Haitian-American, Department of Justice prosecutor, and lead prosecutor in a 1998 international landmark case on genocide and crimes against humanity, is expected to be named Ambassador-at-Large for War Crimes.
